Shore Excursions on Yangtze River - Float through them all!

The longest river in China, the Yangtze River is also the third longest in the world behind the Amazon and the Nile. Here is a list of the many excursions along the river to enhance your experience.

Three Gorges

Qutang Gorge, Xiling Gorge, and Wu Gorge make up The Three Gorges which are considered to be the most beautiful portion of the Yangtze River. Many call it wonderland or even nature's gallery. The longest of the Three Gorges would be Xiling Gorge. It contains multiple dangerous rapids and rocks but it's well known for its streams, stones and springs. This gorge also is home to karst caves where you can find many historical relics. At 44km in length, The Wu Gorge is known for its enchanting nature, serene surrounding and depth. The gorgeous scenery on either side with steep cliffs mimic a cruise. The shortest of the Three Gorges is the Qutang Gorge, it is both breathtaking and dangerous.

Wuhan

Wuhan is a renowned city and is a very popular tourist destination. Wuhan contains ancient history and is the capital of the Hubei Province which is a regular customary port for cruises in the Yangtze River. This city is divided into three boroughs by the Yangtze River, namely Wuchang, Hanyang and Hankou. Which is where most of the ancient history and wonders are found. The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is the first bridge of the Yangtze River and is one of the scenic spots most frequented by tourists. Others include the biggest lake within the city, Dong Lake and Guiyan Temple which is considered a Buddhist holy site.

Chongqing

At the junction of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River is one of the four municipalities in China, which is Chongqing. Accommodation can easily be found in this area as it is the general starting point for all Yangtze River cruises. Chongqing is a main inland port of the country and is the leading industrial, transportation, and commercial centre in the southwestern region of China. The place is also home to many stunning attractions such as People's Assembly Hall, Northern Hot Springs Park, Loquat Hill, Chaotian Gate, Chongqing Museum, Dazu Grotto Art, Erling Park, Arhat Temple and the Chongqing Zoo. **Somerset Yangtze River Chongqing** is a great place to stay at while visiting the many excursions around.

Shashi (Jingzhou)

With an expansive history of over 2,600 years, Jingzhou is an ancient cultural city. It is one of the cradles of the Chu Culture as it used to be the capital of the Chu State throughout the summer and autumn period for many emperors. At present, it features over 800 ancient tombs as one of its attractions. The other main features include the five ruined cities of the State of Chu along with 73 sites of the Chu civilization. An abundance of museums can also be found here for further attractions. Shashi is one of the important ports on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River as Jingzhou is a hub for transportation.

Shibaozhai

Located on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Zhong County, Shibaozhai is a wooden pagoda that is an impressive 12 stories high. Architecturally impeccable, this astounding structure is built against the side of a rectangular cliff. With surroundings that elevate its pleasing aesthetic, this building was first built in 1750 during the Qing Dynasty. Named the "Pearl of the Yangtze", each floor of Shibaozhai contains various interesting artefacts.
