Travel Guide to Ahangama - Advice for Enjoying this Coastal Village

Ahangama is a beautiful coastal village that has grown in popularity over the years. Whether its chilling on the huge sandy beach or planning a tour to nearby attractions here are a few pointers to consider.

1

Getting to Ahangama

Ahangama is a mere hour's drive from the commercial capital Colombo, via the southern highway. Or you could decide to hire a vehicle, self driven or with a chauffeur, and the journey is quite pleasant as it passes the coast, inundated with swaying palm trees, charming fisher villages and sights of fresh catches being reeled in. The drive maybe longer, but if you have the time to spare, well worth the adventure; besides if you are heading to hotels like Mosvold Villa around Ahangama Bay the commute may take just a little over 2 hours.

2

Activities to Plan

One of the top activities to look forward to in Ahangama is surfing. Many of the boutique hotels in Galle and Ahangama offer guests a chance to experience some of the best breaks in Sri Lanka, by directing them to excellent surf schools in the area. Since the sport is highly popularized there, taking along gear is not a necessity as one can easily rent out equipment from their Ahangama resort or the nearest surf school. Apart from riding the waves, there are lovely boat rides to enjoy in Ahangama, with the possibility of exploring the Koggala Lake if you decide to venture towards Galle.

3

Sightseeing in Ahangama

Sightseeing in Ahangama is of course centred on a visit to the Old Dutch Fort in Galle. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Galle is a mere 40 minutes drive away. Well worth the effort of getting there, the Dutch Fort is just as resplendent as the day it was built. Initiated by the Portuguese, enhanced by the Dutch and occupied finally by the British, this stronghold has so much colonial splendours to admire; it's as if you stepped back in time. When you are done wandering the cobble stoned streets and admiring the view from the ramparts, check out the vintage churches, the ancient clock tower and explore the Maritime Museum.

4

Accommodation in Ahungalla

Accommodation is centred on Galle boutique hotels and splendid Ahangama resorts that offer a world of comforts. Look forward to excellent dining options, varied experiences and world class facilities to make your holiday one to remember. Opting for Ahangama villa hotels will give you a chance to rest and relax in style, while staying away from the crowds. Besides, Galle and its charms are just a hop, step and jump away.

5

Plan of Plenty of Photography Expeditions

Ahangama is indeed stunning, and hard to resist even if you are texting away on your mobile phone. Do take the cameras folks, to capture gorgeous vistas of blazing sunsets over the bay, sun kissed sandy beaches, coconut palms swaying in the breeze and rustic villages complete with smiling locals. Ahangama is a magical resort that promises to rejuvenate you.
