IITs to Initiate a Startup Day During Placement

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) plan to have a “Start-Up Day” during campus placement to let start-ups pick good students for jobs. IITs had earlier revoked a long ban on 30 startups from taking a part in placements after some startups had failed to offer jobs to students despite making lucrative offers. Most** IITs** are planning to offer only fifth or sixth slot to the startups because they prefer large firms and regular marquee recruiters in analytics, consulting, information technology, e-commerce, and manufacturing among others.

The coordinator of All IITs *Placement Committee Kaustubha Mohanty has stated that *IITs wanted to send a message to startups that irresponsible behavior of not giving jobs after generating offer letters would not be taken lightly so startups were banned for some time. A core reason for lifting this ban is that newer IITs depend on startups for most of the jobs as big firms rarely hire from there. He also added that students will be asked to do a thorough background check on startups they wish to join.

Placement coordinators of IITs believe that the hiring outlook is somewhat dull this year. Though the 2015-16 placements were good for IITs, that trend went into reverse last year. Public sector undertakings and core manufacturing filled in the breach. This year, PSUs are not likely to hire a lot of students from IITs because Indian government wants them to reach out to other engineering institutes as well, said a placement coordinator of an IIT.

Mohanty also stated that due to dull outlook, most recruiters had reduced the number of offers last year and shared that as the environment has not changed much since offers per recruiter will still be low. To improve this situation, the number of firms offering a job will be increased by 15-20 percent. click here-http://bit.ly/2gcvqST
