A list of resources that will be used for my UTA HIST 3364 Video Storytelling Project about Tom Vandergriff.
A large collection of photos (over 50) that span Mr. Vandergriff's career in Arlington. The rest of the City's History site includes a lot of information about Arlington's history.
Tom Vandergriff's entry at the Hall of Mayors at the City of Arlington website. Includes the places in town where you can see a statue of Mr. Vandergriff, and includes a video, "Remembering Tom Vandergriff."
Caddos, Cotton and Cowboys: Essays on Arlington is a book of local history by O.K. Carter covering landmarks and local points of interest. Also includes a section on Tom Vandergriff's tenure as mayor.
Modern Mayors, Monumental Decisions is a set of case studies of Arlington, Texas mayors collected by our own Dr. Allan Saxe. An essay on Mr. Vandergriff's contributions as Mayor is included.
The Seven Seas Amusement Park (pictures from the UTA Digital Collection) was more or less a failure, but it's a credit to Mr. Vandergriff that this misstep doesn't diminish his reputation. Even the best band can release a bad album.
Politics of Arlington Texas: An Era of Continuity and Growth is another contribution to this project by Dr. Allan Saxe, the book is a "chronicle of the politics, policies, and personalities" in Arlington from the early 50's to 1997.
The City of Arlington has a history on the City website spanning the time period of Tom Vandergriff's time as Mayor.
