Also known as the Tiger Cave Temple, it's the most famous temple in the area. Located not far from Krabi town, the temple forms part of an older temple complex where monks lived within a network of natural caves. There are several fascinating relics in the main cave, but the star attraction here is the 'footprint of the Buddha'. To get to this site you need to climb up 1,237 steps, which can be quite challenging, especially during hot climate. The steps are uneven, and some areas steep, but there's a solid handrail which goes up the full way to offer support. Once you reach the top, the stunning panoramic 360 degree views of the surrounding jungles and sea. If you aren't keen on climbing, explore the caves at ground level, some of which run deep into the mountain. According to legends, a tiger once lived in the main cave, and you can still see tiger footprints on the ground in the lower temple.
Krabi Walking Street is actually a night market in the middle of town, with lots of local handicrafts, souvenirs and clothes for sale. However, it's the wide variety of delicious street food that draws most people here. You can find everything from BBQ meats, kebabs, salads, pancakes, flavoured shaved ice and a whole lot more, all affordable prices. For the adventurous souls, wander around and you'll find stalls that serve up an array of fried insects and frog legs. There's also a platform for a wide sort of entertainment, from karaoke to Thai dancing, so you can settled down for a good show while you eat.
Rent a jeep or bicycle and head off the beaten track. Krabi has spectacular scenery, and a bike ride is another way to truly soak it all up. From the dense green jungles, to limestone karsts which jut out vertically from the green sea, its a real feast for the eyes. Another option is to head inland through the rubber plantations and jungles. Most are bumpy roads that lead to nowhere, but just riding along them is thrilling.
Located in a small jungle, close to the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve, the hot springs are pools that have been created from the water in smooth rocks, with the hot water passing through volcanic chambers. The hot water is extremely relaxing, and is full of natural mineral salts which are said to help issues like rheumatism and sciatica.
Ko Mook island, located between Krabi and Trang, is a must see thanks to its dazzling emerald cave, which according to local legends, pirates used to hide their treasures. The stunning cave was only discover a few decades ago when a few locals went searching for bird's nests. While it is possible to hire a boat and go there on your own, it's safer to go with a guide since the only way to enter the cave, is to swim into the island, and then cross single file while gripping a rope. Located near the Than Bok Khorani and Khao Phanom Bencha National Parks, the mangrove forest and surrounding limestone cliffs make for a day trip excursion. There are also several ancient caves located in the area, which were used as burial sites some 3000 years ago. Many of them still contain paintings that date back to that period.
