The Pre – Sea Training Course for Engine Ratings (Motorman) is a programme that lasts for three months and has also received approval from the Ministry of Ports and Shipping. The course is a fulltime programme containing modules such as maritime English, safe operation of boilers and electrical equipment.
The Marine Engineer Officer Cadet Programme can lead to a candidate obtaining their B.Sc. in Marine Engineering from the Dalian Maritime University in China. The Programme has three phases and upon its conclusion guarantees the bestowment of knowledge, theoretical and practical, as well as hands-on expertise upon the graduate.
This course is a preparatory one that is tailormade for candidates who wish to sit for the Certificate of Competency as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch. This examination is conducted by the Directorate of Merchant Shipping in Sri Lanka. The examination is compulsory for those who wish to undertake work as a Navigation Watch Officer.
Candidates who wish to obtain their General Operators Certificate can do so by following the course offered by the Department of Marine Electronic and Radio Communication of the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College in Malabe.
