Local Sayings, their source and hopefully their meanings

As an Irish islander with strong British connections and now living in Cork, I take great pleasure in colloquial sayings. I might like to record how and when I first heard the saying but will see how that goes....

Cork saying meaning dating.
I first heard this in the horse and jockey, Co Tipperary, when a friend described Clint Eastwood being up and down with Sondra Locke. I visualised the up and down before and was so amused. Presume this comes direct from an Irish translation as Irish tended to be more open about sex before the church got involved
