Of course, pick a fruit she'd enjoy for many years to come. Plant it in a favorite corner of her garden. If she's not into fruits, a flowering plant might work better.
This works great for both the mom and grandma. Kids bring back artwork from school which ends up in a box somewhere. Get a bunch of them that are the same size (or make color copies). Bind them up with a laminated cover.
Since we went digital, most folks never print photos they take on a regular basis. Why not pick the best photos from the last year and make a nice collage that can be printed and framed for a personalized gift?
