5 Activities to Do During Your Stay in Khon Kaen – A 'Must Do' Guide

Khon Kaen, located in Northern Thailand should be on your list of places to visit while in the country. Here is a list of activities you can consider doing while you're here!

Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake

The Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake is a haven in the middle of the busy city. Covering an area of over 100 hectares, the lake is surrounded by trees and a jogging track making it the ideal place to head to if you're looking to get back in shape during your holiday in Thailand. You will also find restaurants and a few temples and shrines. If you're planning to walk around the lake, it'll take you about 30 minutes, and while you're here, don't forget to visit the Hall of Culture and Heritage. Chao Mae Song Nang located on the southern end of the lake is a colourful shrine dedicated to a local spirit. Some of the other temples around the lake include Wat Nong Waeng, Wat Phra That Aram Luang and Wat Pho Non Than.

Khon Kaen National Museum

A visit to the Khon Kaen National Museum comes highly recommended as one of the top things to do in Khon Kaen as it offers a great insight into the city's rich history. The museum can be found on Lang Sun Ratchakan Road and hosts a varied collection of art work and antiques dating back to pre historic periods. The museum also holds an amazing display of the skeleton a man from the New Stone Age along with tools that were found at Ban Chiang. Ban Chiang has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you're a history lover, this museum definitely requires a visit! Other items that you'll be able to find include marble slabs, ancient tools, bas relief and stuccos. Some of the most fascinating artefacts which are quite obviously the museum's biggest attraction are the ancient musical instruments on display, various dinosaur fossils and human skeletons. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm.

Ban Khok Sanga King Cobras Village

A popular place to visit – unless you're not a fan of snakes, the Ban Khok Sanga King Cobras Village is exactly as the name suggests. This entire village has only one common pet – the king cobra. Used for a variety of reason, from selling herbal medicine to being a tourist attraction. If you're interested in watching a cobra show, head down to Wat Si Thamma where Cobras 'dance' and 'box' with other cobras and sometimes even men!

Dino Water Park

A water park is always a fun way to spend your day, and if you're travelling with the whole family, what better way to let your kids enjoy their vacation?! Dino Water Park is located in the heart of Khon Kaen close to many accommodation properties such as AVANI Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Center. Open daily from 9 am to noon, the water park covers an area of 40 acres and features a variety of rides and slides spread out across 9 different zones!

Local Night Markets are always a flurry of activity and a great way to immerse yourself in local ways and culture. Here's your chance to get your souvenir shopping done and indulge in some delicious street food. Laeng Market and Ton Tann Green Market are some of the more popular ones in Khon Kaen.
