Listly by Shirley Gallagher
This is a list to promote my local community. Following on from a July hangout we thought we ought to create a list of reasons why people should come to Glanmire. I am thinking this list should have people, places and projects

Elaine Garde-Wulff explains the Future Orchard Concept
Orchards are very special gardens, for most they are perceived as places not just of sanctity and tranquillity but of great abundance. Perhaps reverence for the Apple tree might be a good example of the human connection to nature, at its best. It was most likely this positive view which lead to the overwhelming support of a proposal to create a collectively owned Orchard in Cork. With a working title of ‘Future Orchard” the project started in 2009 with a personal commitment to see it through, whatever the challenges. Inspired more for its potential as a creative space, than as some replica of a certain biblical story, it has been an journey of considerable interest for all of us that have got involved.
A little hectare of land with as many as 100 shareholders, Future orchard was set up as a small scale ecological enterprise, using a model that rejects the need for loans, capital investment or any dependency on grants.
Tir na nog is a place from Folklore that is full of everything and people never get old.
Tir na nog (a portal experience) is an Art project which is creating Portals (a doorway) to this other world
Being a Portal bearer (owner) you have a map with a specific G.P.S. code and a large amount of special currency you can spend there. You become rich beyond your dreams.
You don't join the project. You buy or trade a Portal and then you are part of the evolving Artwork. You can continue to value your currency and find out more about this new world of abundance which you have found.
The golden Acorn currency as an index of Value is the real key to the Portal go dti Tir na nOg......

You can get great fresh fish in Glanmire. If you like fish - or want to see the latest catch displayed well - this is a top class place worth travelling to visit.
It was great news when this family business (with a good reputation) moved in to Glanmire in 2012. Saves me travelling to the English Market in Cork city centre (where the fish are magnificent).
Their website says "We offer a vast array of fresh fish and shell fish, smoked fish, exotic fish and Ballycotton Seafood artisan oven ready seafood in all our shops. We also offer a range of complimentary products in our shops. We cook our artisan range of seafood on a daily basis using the best of fresh fish and locally sourced natural ingredients. This range changes on a daily basis as our chef and kitchen team try out new ideas and recipes. These products are convenient and easy to cook. The range includes sauces, Fisherman Pie, Salmon Tartlets, Seafood Vol au Vent, Seafood Quiche, Seafood Lasagne, to mention but a few. We also have stuffed Garlic Mussels."
But, for me, the reason to visit this shop is the fresh fish which they'll gut & ready for me to cook myself. (By the way I have no commercial relationship whatsoever with this local shop - it's simply great to have them in Glanmire.)
This is the audio I recorded the first time I went into the shop:
