Top 7 Things to do in Bangkok When it Rains – The Skies may be Crying, but you won't be

Rain tends to throw a wet blanket on holiday plans, but not even a sudden downpour of cats and dogs can keep you from enjoying your visit to the Big Mango.

1

Central World Plaza

Get all your shopping done at the largest shopping complex in Thailand! The Central World Plaza is 550,000 square meters in size and offers everything from high-tech gadgets, brand name clothing boutiques, bookshops, funky fashion wear and designer furniture to gourmet eateries, beauty salons and imported groceries. If you are a shopaholic, this is your paradise.

2

SEA LIFE Ocean World

Of the many Bangkok tourist attractions, this one is a must, no matter the weather outside. SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World is one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia and is located underneath the Siam Paragon shopping mall. The aquarium accommodates more than 30,000 marine and aquatic species from across the globe, in truly innovative, world-class exhibits.

3

Terminal 21 Shopping Mall

This unusual mall gives the illusion of travelling around the world. Whether or not you want to do some shopping, Terminal 21 is worth a visit just for its cutting edge interior design which is themed and styled to represent various countries and cities – one moment you're walking past mazes of shops in Tokyo, next you find yourself in an Istanbul souq, then in London's Carnaby Street, take the escalator down two levels and you find yourself in Rome. The mall houses around 600 shops, a gourmet market, with more than 50 restaurants, a food court, featuring food from around the globe, and a Cineplex. The mall is located on Sukhumvit Road where many resorts, restaurants and 5-star hotels like Emporium Suites by Chatrium are found.

4

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)

Reminiscent of New York's Guggenheim, the BACC was opened in 2008 and is the hub of Bangkok's growing art scene. The centre features an extensive range of contemporary art, music, design, film and theatre, the largest such exhibition of the like, in the city. BACC provides a great insight into modern Thai culture and is an interesting and thought-provoking way to spend a couple of hours.

5

Drive a Jet-Plane

Flight Experience Bangkok provides visitors with a vividly realistic simulation of flying a plane, complete with genuine pilot instructors, a simulator built to the exact specifications as a real plane and a cockpit that's actually slightly more advanced than simulators initially used by pilots-in-training. There is a 30 minute and 60 minute package to choose from and you have a choice of 24,000 airports to take off from and land in. The audio and visuals during the simulation are incredibly realistic, just as the entire simulation itself, so it won't take more than a moment for you to completely forget you aren't actually flying. If you want a bit of a challenge, you can have the simulation replicate bad weather as well!

6

Go-Karting

Easy Kart indoor race track, located in Royal City Avenue is an exhilarating way to spend time in gloomy weather – you can challenge your friends and family to adrenaline-charged races filled with tight turns and fantastic drifting opportunities. The track is open between 01:00 PM to 12:00 AM and caters to a range of different age groups and experience levels.

7

Art in Paradise

Fittingly referred to by locals as the Trickeye Museum or 3D Museum this interactive attraction, located at Esplanade Shopping Mall, on Ratchada Road, is an absolute riot to visit, especially with friends and family. The fantastic, two-storey gallery features dozens of marvellous, intricately painted scenes – such as 'ride a flying carpet', 'Stairway to Hell' and 'Coronation of the Emperor' – all of which you can literally step into and immerse yourself in to produce some truly memorable pictures. Even Just watching other visitors striking goofy poses to match a scene, whether it's simply pretending to balance on a surf boat or fall into an eternal abyss, is hilariously entertaining and a great way to kill a couple of hours.
