Tips for Throwing a Graduation Party on a Budget

Graduating college is a big milestone and one that calls for a celebration. While a graduation party isn’t required, it’s a special and fun way to celebrate your child’s hard accomplishment. Best of all, throwing a great party doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune, either.

1

Host at Home

One easy way to save money on a party is to have it at your house rather than renting out a restaurant or banquet hall. Renting out space usually requires a deposit, which increases costs, and you will have the space only for so long. By having it at home, you can save money and have the party for as long as you’d like. Also, most of your child’s friends may already be familiar and comfortable at your house, which will help.

2

Find a Local Caterer

Serving delicious graduation party food is a must for a memorable event. You could do all of the cooking yourself, but that requires a lot of time, which you may not have. Have you considered ordering from a local restaurant in Exton PA that caters? Not only are catering services very affordable, but you can save time on not having to cook and the food will be fresh on the day of the party.

3

Use Digital Invitations

This day in age, every college student is on Facebook. Rather than spending money on invitations and stamps, create a Facebook event to send to your child’s friends. You can also use Evite to send invitations online. For older relatives who aren’t Facebook savvy or don’t’ have an email, send them printed invitations.

4

Create Decorations

Rather than paying a high price for decorations you may only use once and get rid of, why not make them yourself? One easy and cute project idea is to roll up white paper napkins and tie them with a black ribbon to look like diplomas. Buy plates and cups in your graduate’s school colors. Another idea is to create a visual timeline of your graduate’s life. Use photos of your child from each year of their life leading up to this day. You can put them on a Styrofoam board, use clothes pins or binder clips and hang them on the clothing line, or go digital and create an interactive timeline on your computer and keep it up for viewing.
