Do try the classy cafes along the shore for a very memorable meal while a short amble along the spit will take you to the large lighthouse; mind you head out at low tide after consulting the tidal chart.

Both these beaches are accessed through Shoal Bay. The area is just right for nature lovers to appreciate the natural beauty of Port Stephens and for spotting whales and dolphins that frequent the area. It's quite common to see wedding parties enjoying celebrations on this beach.

Box Beach is not as accessible as the others but it does deserve special mention for those of you eager to set off on an early morning surfing tour. The ideal beach to head to at first light, Box Beach is just right for a bout of body surfing and surfing.
