Silves

Outline with orange groves, vineyards and olive trees, the town of Silves takes the award for being the most scenic and enchanting town in Algarve. With a castle dominating much of the landscape of the town, known as Silves castle, or as the Portuguese call it; Castelo de Silves! Spend your day exploring this town at your own pace, where you can also visit the Sé; a cathedral that was built around 1242. By mid August, an annual medieval festival takes places within this charming rustic town and its cobbled streets are crowded with throngs of locals embracing the spirit of the festival. Visit a church

Known to have some of the most intricately designed structures, the churches of Algarve clearly define the landscapes of the city. Usually painted a pristine immaculate white on the outside, the interior is sure to take your breath away. The tiles inside these churches that are plastered from the floor to the ceilings are usually hand painted and date back to centuries. Some of the churches that you must visit in Algarve are the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo, the Cathedral of Faro, the Church of São Clemente in Loulé and the Church of Santo António. Most of the churches have been built in the 16th or 18th centuries. Spend your day walking in and out of these buildings, while admiring the architecture!

Golf

Golfing is one of the favourite pastimes for holiday goers and locals in Portugal. Algarve is famous for its green golf courses with a variety to choose from. Known to be an amazing place in Algarve and definitely a must visit when you're in this southern region of Portugal, the Ria Formosa Natural Park offers a dazzling landscape at a unique location. The park has recently been recognised as one of the country's 7 Natural Wonders and is a protected area. The coastal lagoon is the biggest attraction for bird lovers, especially aquatic birds and is the best place to watch them in their natural habitat. Some of the most rare bird species you will be able to spot here are the Purple Swamphen, flamingos, etc. You will also be able to find seahorses and chameleons!
