With a castle dominating much of the landscape of the town, known as Silves castle, or as the Portuguese call it; Castelo de Silves! Spend your day exploring this town at your own pace, where you can also visit the Sé; a cathedral that was built around 1242. By mid August, an annual medieval festival takes places within this charming rustic town and its cobbled streets are crowded with throngs of locals embracing the spirit of the festival.
