The island paradise that is Sri Lanka offers an endless coastline of stunning beaches. These are mostly golden sandy embankments framed by swaying coconut palms and the glistening blue Indian Ocean.

The Bentota Beach – South Coast

The south coast is one of the most popular stretches of beach and Bentota rules as one of the most vibrant resort towns. The place is easily reached from the commercial capital Colombo and is for those tourists out for loads of fun, sun and surf. Bentota beach is framed by many resorts and aquatic clubs that offer a variety of water sports as well some good restaurants and a pretty hip nightlife.

Hikkaduwa Beach – South Coast

Hikkaduwa beach or 'Hikka' as the place is popularly known came to life as a hippy's paradise. Favoured by backpackers the area still retains its retro charms and is often a venue for many annual beach parties and festivals. The wide expanse of Hikkaduwa beach is favoured by sun lovers as well as scuba divers who visit the place for its biggest asset – the coral beds. Chilaw Beach – West Coast

Unawatuna Beach – South Coast

Unawatuna is a little village about 5kms from the historical town of Galle, there the beautiful beach gently slopes down into the sea. Jungle Beach is by the far the most famous location, accessed via a short trek through a lush forest. The sea is particularly conducive for swimming and is home to a blow hole as well as the Rummasala Hill steeped in ancient mythology.

Passikuda Beach – Eastern Coast

The eastern coast is still waking up from its long sleep during the civil war years. The still unspoilt beaches although a fair distance from Colombo and the airport are picturesque and tranquil. Ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving there are coral beds just off the coast while plenty of vintage sites around the area add some adventure and excitement to your beach holiday.
