In Scotland, under Scots Law, everyone over the age of 12 can make a Will. We believe that everyone should make a Will even if it is the most basic type, naming one person who should inherit all their assets.
Without a Will the people who need your assets like your home or money the most may not inherit them. If your family and relationships are complex, a simple Will can ensure the people most important to you are looked after once you die.
At Fergusson Law in Edinburgh we offer a fixed fee service for making wills.
If you wish to buy or sell a home, you need to contract a conveyancing Solicitor. They will ensure that all the necessary paperwork is in place and that the funds are transferred.
.......in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.
However, if you speak to a Solicitor they can help you mitigate inheritance and capital gains taxes. What better way to help your family after you die.

In practice an example of a Trust is -
Setting up a trust can help to protect assets and save tax at the same time. For example, you might want to give your niece a lump sum, but do not want her to spend it on the wrong things. By putting the money in trust, you can be sure that your niece will benefit from the money, but your appointed Trustees will manage the funds so that they are spent in line with your wishes. You could also benefit from a tax saving.
Your local family solicitor is the ideal person to administer and maintain your Trust.
