List of Waterfalls in Nuwara Eliya – Discover Beautiful Silvery Cascades

Nuwara Eliya home to a town called 'Little England'; established by British colonists boasts of hills that frame the countryside from which majestic waterfalls wind their way across the hilly slopes.

Lover's Leap Falls

Located along the Kandapola – Nuwara Eliya Road the water from this fall is taken to brew a popular brand of Nuwara Eliya beer. The sad name is derived from the legend that speaks of a prince who fell in love with a common village girl only to be forced to give her by his father the king. Not being able to bear the burden of his loss the prince together with his lover leapt from the summit of this fall on a full moon poya night; hence the name. If you stop at the second mile post at Hawa Eliya and look towards the country's highest mountain – Piduruthalagala you will be able to spot this waterfall which is 30 metres in height and cascades from a rock ledge.

Laksapana Falls

Guest travelling to Heritance Tea Factory will find this beautiful waterfall is off the Nuwara Eliya – Kandapola Road. Rising from a summit in the Laksapana Estate the falls plunge through Mousakelle to meet the Maskeliya Oya (river), at the base. Camping at Upper Glencairn in Dick Oya is your best option for first hand views of this waterfall. This water too is used for brewing the famous Nuwara Eliya beer.

Devon Falls

Stop to view these falls as you travel to your chosen Nuwara Eliya accommodation. The falls are named after one of the country's pioneer coffee planters, Devon. Just 6kms from the town of Thalawakelle the cascades drop 97 metres into a valley below; there is a scenic viewing platform along the road where you can park your vehicle for taking scenic photos and simply enjoying the salubrious environs and sights of the waterfall.

Ramboda Ella Falls

This waterfall is huge and runs quite close to the 53km milepost on the A5 Trunk Road. It measures at a height of 329 feet and is seen in 3 tiers. The first flow is 100 metres through lush jungle and is above the road. The second part is closest to the road and measures at just 3 metres while the third tier is 100 metres and flows below the road. You are advised to head out to the Ramboda Basin where the legendary Ramboda Inn offers spectacular views of the entire waterfall. Depending on the time of visit the upper section of the falls may be covered in thick fog adding a mysterious allure to the cascades.

Hellboda Ella Falls

This is on the Kandy to Nuwara Eliya Road and is seen besides the A5 Trunk Route to the east of Pussellawa Town. The falls are about 197 feet in height and consist of two parts. It is a picturesque waterfall that is easily accessed from the side of the road by foot.
