21st Century 6th Grade Learners

Here are links to 8 lesson plans to teach 6th graders about 21st century skills!

This lesson requires that students find a song (g-rated) that has a leadership message in it. Students have to create a presentation about the song and the lyrics, and tie it to leadership. This lesson has students think outside the box and is really fun because students can use any school appropriate music they want to!

This lesson includes two different activities. On day 1, students learn what Fairtrade is, and create a presentation that informs their peers about Fairtrade and how it can help or hinder producers. On day 2, students learn about the benefits that Fairtrade has for certain countries/producers and how interdependent the world is when it comes to food!

In this lesson, students will use Quandary, an online game, to make choices. They have to problem solve their way through a futuristic life by making “real life” choices with “real life” consequences.

Team Work

Click on the link, then download the lesson made by MathGiraffe! I like this lesson particularly because it has to do with numbers. Students are put into groups and are given a set of cards, and have to figure out how the cards go together. Eventually, students realize that they will need to listen to what other groups are saying and work with another group to solve the puzzle.
