Some of the Biggest Myths About Golf – Teeing Off to Find the Truth!

People sometimes have misconceptions about certain sports like golf. It's time to break some of the biggest myths that surround golf and hopefully help one get a better understanding of this sport.

1

Golf is a mostly reserved sport

While there is an element of reserve and calm in golf, it also offers plenty of thrills, spills and nerve-racking moments that are bound to get the adrenaline pumping, be you playing or watching! Gone is the stuffy attire one would associate with the Victorian period where it was not uncommon to see players in a full formal kit inclusive of tie and jacket. Today's golf attire is more stylish and the clubs themselves are open to a wide cross section of players, both male and female, young and old, amateur and pro. It is a great game to also get to know someone and share a relaxed or competitive day out on the greens whichever destination you play at be it a Japan or Johor golf course.

2

You need a lot of money to play golf

While in certain cases golf can be initially expensive for those planning to buy the complete golf club set and maybe membership at an exclusive club, it doesn't have to be. To start off you can look to sign up for a beginner course, which not only will help you learn the basics, but (depending on the type of package) will have the equipment provided for your lessons too. You also have the option of buying a second hand, but well used set of clubs and bag for starters. As for membership, you can even look to see if a local club offers flexible memberships options.

3

Being a member of a club is a must

Beginners don't necessarily need to join a club and pay membership. One can look out for golfing programmes or beginner packages at certain clubs which provide non-members with a chance to learn the game. In fact, now you even get golfing getaways which let you play while on holiday or business with options including The Els Club Malaysia. While being a member of a club does come with certain privileges and a chance to participate in social events and competitions, you can always first look to learn the game and maybe play at public courses before deciding to join a particular club.

4

Golf is a men's only sport

Golf is a unisex sport and can be enjoyed by both men and women. In fact, women have been playing golf for a very long time and golf course design does not discriminate according to gender. Golf also has what is called a "handicap system" that gives golfers of different skill levels and abilities a chance to play and enjoy this game. It has also become a great sport where men and women can enjoy social interaction be it on the field of play or at the club house after.
