This is a 2-minute video explaining how to solve one step equations that involve addition or subtraction. After the video, the website will automatically take you to an additional video, a notes page, and practice problems. You can even learn about solving addition and subtraction one step equations with fractions and decimals!

Created by Mr. Cole, a middle school teacher in New York, this link leads students to a page of fill in the blank notes that include guided practice and independent practice. This document clearly explains what a variable is and what the steps are to solving a one-step equation (that uses any operation).

Students can read through this instructional website to learn about how to solve one step equations, first using the idea of balancing a scale, then later by isolating the variable.

Algebra-Class walks students through what “balancing an equation” means. At the bottom of this site students can click on lessons about solving both one step and two step equations.

Coolmath has a series of websites that teaches students how to solve one step equations. This link goes directly to the “introduction” page, where students can begin learning about balancing equations. On the right-hand side, students can learn more by clicking on the different “what to do” links.

This is a game that can be played on computers or iPads. It can be played with one or two players, as individuals or as teams. The game requires students to solve a one-step equation. After the equation is solved correctly, they must catch the ball, to shoot for points.
