Because the distance between the capital island Male and most of the island resorts are quite far, speed boats have become a popular means of transport. Since the country's main airport is near Male, chances are you will have to take a speedboat to your chosen island resort. Though the distance may be great, a speed boat ride reduces the time it takes to reach your destination and is often a thrilling way to take in the majestic panoramas that the Maldives is known for.
