This restaurant has been open since 1962; it specialises in Thai and local Chanthaburi specials. The menu is not huge but more than adequate to get a taste of the delicious dishes the area is synonymous for. You should try the pork cooked with chamung leaves; a slow roasted pork shoulder that is cooked to a rich consistency with local chamung leaves this is a melt in your mouth dish. The Chanthaburi crab noodles served here are the best, it is a dish of sautéed rice noodles that quite spicy and bursting with crab meat. Another must try is san wa a shrimp paste that is served with strips of lemon grass and raw vegetables.
A budget eater's paradise Sukhapiban Road is a well-known for its collection of eateries that offer low cost delicious food. There are talented chefs that turn out marvellous dishes using local fruits like rambutan and durian; popular exotic options that are must try dishes. You will also come across sweet lotus buds cooked with sesame seeds that are excellent snacks to take on the road. The best desert here is the ice cream served at the Rocky Ice Cream Parlour. Look for flavours such as Thai tea, guava and durian.
The nameless noodle shop is located past the Rocky Ice Cream Parlour; look out for a traditional teakwood house. There a Chinese lady dishes out some of the best food you will taste in Thailand. Do try the crab noodle soup kwit-teau buu nahm together with pad sen chanbuu. Just as good as the food is the traditional ambience enhanced by the friendly attitude of the old lady and her family.
Lookout for the little cool café serving delicious Thai iced teas and excellent coffees. There is a lovely veranda facing the river along which you can sit to enjoy your drinks. Just past the coffee shop is the very small sandwich kiosk serving bite sized Vietnamese style banh mi sandwiches that include delicious chunks of crab and pork cooked in herbs. We recommend you buy a bagful of the snacks.
If you want a relaxing evening out enhanced with stunning scenery check out the Soi Dao Restaurant located at the Chatrium Golf Resort Soi Dao. Tipped to be one of the best restaurants in Pong Nam Ron this place offers a good selection of traditional Chanthaburi food. The moo cha muang comes highly recommended; this signature dish is a Chanthaburi style pork curry cooked in herbs. There is also fried chicken in garlic and pepper as well as Chanthaburi style noodles with spicy chicken soup. Enjoy meals to stunning views of Soi Dao Mountain range.
