Australia's less visited neighbour is a veritable foodie paradise with food festivals such as the Wildfoods Festival being hosted here annually.

Every March, in the middle of the month, locals and tourists alike flock to the little coastal town of Hokitika which lies on the western side of South Island. Food celebrations around the world
like these are treasure troves of rare, edible finds.

At this festival, visitors are likely to be presented with dishes such as beetle grubs, earthworms, possum cutlets, seagull eggs and mountain oysters, which are just some to name a few.

Also usually found in the mix are the more familiar items such as snails, or escargot as the French call it, and frog legs.

In search of more exciting festivals to visit all over the globe? Posts by online publications such as the Events and Festivals Blog and others like it may help you in your quest to locate happening events the world over.

The Salon de Chocolate , an Ecuadorian festival, is a one-stop shop for the chocoholics of the world. 🍫🍩

Drawing tens and thousands of chocolate addicts from all over the globe, this festival takes places in the town of Quito in South America's Ecuador and offers visitors various chocolate based events to participate in such as cookery classes and chocolate tastings.

If you plan on swinging by this festival, be warned that gaining entry is no casual feat owing to the large numbers of drooling fans that swarm the gates each year.

So make sure to get there early in the morning and stand in line like you would do for a music concert.

Some of the area's residents, as well as tourists like you who have travelled from abroad for this particular event, and who are currently shacked up in town, will be sure to get there well before 10 am in order to secure their spot in line.

In the land of the eternally neutral and extremely punctual, there resides a particular market whose products will likely knock people's opinions of you off the fence for good; and not in a good way!

Stuffing your face at The Onion Market is a sure fire way to rack up some potent BO.

You might not keep the vamps away, considering the food, as the name of the market suggests, primarily onion rather than garlic-based, however, you may very well succeeding in keeping hordes of very alive and kicking people far away from you!

In addition to onion-based products such as onion tarts and onion soup, the market also sells a shipload of onions of all varieties and sizes for visitors to inspect and purchase.

You'd be hard pressed to find another venue that took onions as seriously as The Onion Market does . 🌰

While the United States of America are probably home to more foodie festivals than any other destination in the world, the festival we'll talk about today appeals to all those who have a savoury appetite rather than the more common sweet-toothed one.

We're talking about the Bacon Festival which is held in the city of Sacramento in the state of California.

Dishes featuring bacon which is produced from organically reared pigs, such as bacon ramen, salad, tater tots, and more uniquely, gelato, are some of the porky dishes on offer here; and some of them are cooked out in the open before your very eyes!

Those of you who enjoy a good drink with which to wash down your food will be glad to know that the Bacon Festival is also full of stalls overflowing with alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine. 🥓🐷
