Things to know before a visit to Caicos – Important things to note down

Caicos, part of the Turks and Caicos island group is located in the Caribbean and is the larger of the two islands.

1

Best time to visit

Although many locals will tell you that the islands receive sun 350 days a year, they do have their off season – especially when it's hurricane season! The ideal time to visit, which is the tourist season is from the end of November to March. These days are hot and sunny and are ideal for laying in the sand and achieving that wondrous island glow you've been dreaming about for months leading up to your vacation. Avoid visiting the islands from June to November as this is the most common hurricane months. Locals and visitors to the islands are usually warned a week in advance when the beginnings of a hurricane have been detected.

2

Accommodation

When looking for a Caribbean luxury resort to stay at, there are plenty of options available! Splurge and book the best accommodation as this is what sets your vacation in the right direction. Most properties such as COMO Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos offer beach villas and garden villas to ensure their guests get the best view and experience during their stay on the island. Remember comfort is the key and when you're on holiday, it's completely acceptable to spend on a good resort.

3

Packing

Wondering what to pack before heading to the sunny island of Caicos? Casual resort wear is always your safest bet. Pack light summer clothing and swim wear, as you'll most likely spend a majority of your time wading through the blue ocean waters. Do invest in a good quality mosquito or insect repellent as there are quite a large number of mosquitoes in the area. Sunscreen is obviously a must, as you don't want to go back with a really bad burn, but instead get that holiday island glow. Sun dresses, shorts, sun hats and sun glasses should fill out most of your attire during your holiday. If you're interested in clubbing, there are some popular local nightclubs, but the dress code is pretty lax and you don't have to worry about packing your heels!

4

Attractions

Beach beach beach! It's the biggest attraction and the most important reason to visit the island of Caicos. Pristine and beautiful white sandy beaches that look like it popped out from a postcard along with warm blue waters that are filled with colourful coral reefs. You can even visit the world's only conch farm, where the meat is harvested for meals and the shells are sold as trinkets and souvenirs for you to take back home.

5

Costs

The islands of Turks and Caicos are generally considered to be quite expensive. Especially with regards to transport, where cabs charge per person instead of distance travelled between locations. An island tour via a cab that will last around 3 hours will cost you approximately $100. Most resorts do offer you free water activities; however this would depend on the resort of your choice. Popular water activities include snorkelling, diving, catamaran sailing and many others.
