There are 2 types of islands here in Maldives, each providing unique experiences to a traveller. The inhabited islands are the ones which are recognized as towns and villages where the beautiful life of the locals unfold and take form. Unlike most island nations the inhabited islands of the Maldives outnumber the inhabited isles as human communities have only spread out across certain areas of the archipelago leaving much of the atolls and coral islands to remain as pristine virgin isles. Visitors should note that these inhabited islands contain both fishings as well as farming communities with areas divided into villages, cities, and towns. Well-known inhabited islands of the Maldives include Thuraakunu, Berinmadhoo, Hathifushi, Uligan, Molhadhoo, Ihavandhoo, and Vashafaru while Kelaa, Vashafaru, Hoarafushi and Dhidhdhoo are among the many areas of the archipelago inhabited by people. Uninhabited islands are the ones which are used for agricultural purposes and the tourist resorts. Lined with breathtaking sandy beaches and natural attributes the Virgin Islands are often visited by tourists as a part of an island hopping excursions. Serving as the habitat for many a marine and land species of flora and fauna these islands are the last remaining examples of paradise on earth in a literal sense.
