Try these outdoor activities to make your visit to Seoul memorable – Fun in the Orient

People immediately think of Japan and China when the term 'orient' is heard, however, this time, we are going to be exploring all the fun things to do in Korea.

1

Which Korea?

When we say Korea, we mean the South. So for some good time and harmless fun, fly south of the 38th parallel and head to South Korea. At least on your first trip out to the region, since getting the clearance needed to visit North Korea and reading up on the rules to be followed there, is a whole different ball game best left to another time. Now if you're finally making that trip to South Korea, one of the places you should definitely spend a lot of time in is the country's capital of Seoul. This town, which hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2002, is full of places to see and things to be done, so have at it.

2

Hangang River

Near the 38th parallel, lies Hangang River. One of the most iconic attractions in all of Korea, for, it marks the physical divide between the nations of South and North Korea. This national landmark offers much in the way of outdoor entertainment as its banks are populated by a number of outdoor parks. Activities you can do by the river include river cruises, cycling and bird watching.

3

Oppa, Gangnam Style

Ever heard of PSY's Gangnam Style? You've probably been living under a rock the past few years if you haven't. This electro dance music inspired hit by home-grown Korean artist PSY went viral a while after it was produced, and made it into the top US and UK music charts a couple of years ago. In it, the charismatic singer sings about the opulent lifestyles of those living in Seoul's affluent Gangnam district, the home to the rich and the fabulous, comparable to American TV show Gossip Girl's portrayal of Manhattan's wealthy Upper East Side. Well, here's your chance to live it up while you're in the nation's capital; book a stay at a Gangnam serviced residence or hotel such as the Citadines Han River Seoul or any other and observe life in one of Korea's most wealthy neighbourhoods. It won't be as costly as you think!

Theme Walks

If you would prefer to work out while you sightsee, book yourself a spot on one of the many themed walking tours that Seoul has to offer. Making an effort to keep trim while on holiday is always a good thing considering that most of us tend to pack on the holiday pounds like nothing, especially in a foreign country which offers plenty of new and exciting dining options. These tours take you to attractions of historic and cultural significance and let you explore the city at your own pace. Places you will get to see include the famed architecture of Sungkyunkwan University, an educational institution which is over half a century old!
