John is the fourth book of the New Testament and one of the four gospels. Authorship is traditionally attributed to John the Apostle, son of Zebedee. John focuses his writing on Jesus’ ministry in Judea while Matthew, Mark, and Luke focus on his Galilean ministry. John records the signs Jesus performed to encourage people to believe in him. Commentaries on John often address the theme of belief in the gospel, examples of belief and unbelief in Jesus’ ministry, as well as his death and resurrection.

The "the three distinctives of The Bible Speaks Today series are (1) "BST authors are committed to a serious study of the text in its own integrity," (2) that "expositors should not be antiquarians, living only in the remote past" but suggest application for living, and (3) "each book is intended to be both readable in style and manageable in size."
