The growth of India Aviation has continued by gaining the fourth position in air traffic ranking by IATA.

Siemens and Dubai Airports join hands to enhance passenger experience, cargo operations | Aviation

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) and Dubai Airports have signed an MoU to explore potential areas of collaboration that will enhance passenger experience and throughput, cost optimisation and energy efficiency at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). The MoU identifies the intent to explore potential areas of collaboration in the fields of data management and digitalisation. As part of this agreement the companies aim at utilising IoT technology and infrastructure as well as analytics capabilities, establishing a standardised and secure way to exchange quality-assured data across different stakeholders at the airports in real-time. For the digital technologies, Siemens is using MindSphere, its open, cloud-based operating system for the Internet of Things.

Qatar to bring in 4000 bovines to boost milk supply

July 19, 2017: As the geo-political standoff between Qatar and the rest of the Gulf Co-operation Countries (GCC) languishes, a Qatar-based businessman has worked out a plan to airlift 4000 cows into the country. This move is to boost Qatar’s milk supply and wean the country off Riyadh’s teat. The cows will help Qatar meet 30 percent of its dairy demand (the country currently receives 80 percent of its food imports from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf neighbours).

GST on international freight to stifle growth of air cargo: PHD Chamber

July 22, 2017: Industry body, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the government not to impose GST on international freight as air cargo trade is already facing many challenges and that such a taxation is also not in vague in economies of scale. At the recently held Air Cargo Summit 2017 organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry it was debated that “Why would the government of India want Indian exporters to pay an extra 18 percent GST on freight and make goods non-competitive in international market”. Hence GST should not be applicable on international freight, further contended the Summit.

Bidding process for the second round under RCS launched

August 24, 2017: The Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju announced that the process for bidding for the second round of the Regional Connectivity Scheme – UDAN will start today.  Raju said that the thrust in the second round will be on improving connectivity to priority areas like the North East, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh , Andaman & Nicobar  Islands and Lakshdweep by introducing more operational flexibility and promoting helicopter operations. The minister informed that the changes in the second round of UDAN had been brought in after extensive consultations with stakeholders over the last four months.

BIAL takes initiatives to develop itself as an air freight hub

July 25, 2017: Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), in collaboration with its cargo partners– Menzies Aviation Bobba Bangalore (MABB) and Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS), has successfully completed a three-month run of its bonded trucking service from Tirupur to Kempegowda International Airport, as part of its ambitious Knitwork Connect Blr project. Started in April 2017, this project aims to accelerate the International trade from BLR Airport.

Scoot adds 5 destinations post merger

Jul 26, 2017: Scoot and Tigerair, the two budget airlines under Singapore Airlines marked the completion of their merger to become a medium-size airline. Going forward, all previous Tigerair flights will be operated under the Scoot brand. On the occasion, Scoot also announced the addition of five new destinations to its network- Harbin, Kuantan, Kuching, Palembang and Honolulu – bringing the total number of destinations to 65 across 18 countries.
