Kids Friendly Activities in Maldives – Loads of fun for the Young

A holiday in the Maldives in not only for romance and honeymoons; the place is loads of fun for everyone. Kids especially are well catered to with many resorts specialising in children's activities.

1

Help Build a Coral Reef

This is an endeavour that will fascinate all kids. The thought of building a home for turtles and fish is endearing to anyone, especially children. This is why many resorts are now encouraging eco-tourism amongst the younger visitors. An experienced marine biologist will show your child how to attach pieces of coral to a frame which once placed in the water grows and expands creating a thriving home for many varieties of fish and marine life. Best of all your children will be sent regular updates of how their little projects are surviving by the resort.

2

Enjoy Feeding the Fish

Ideal for an early morning or evening activity, feeding fish can be quite rewarding for young children. Some resorts have ponds with fish that allow feeding. Mind you feeding fish in the ocean with bread and other man made tit bits are not encouraged. Instead, stick to feeding the fish in the ponds.

Kiddies Cookery Classes

Maldives beach villas are fabulous in the sense they teach young kids the joys of nature. Open to the sandy shores and surrounded by lush greenery these lovely holiday abodes are ideal for families. At most of these villa type resorts, kids are kept well engaged with activities that interest little minds. Cooking classes are one; leaving parents to enjoy some alone time. For instance, kids are taught to make a dolphin shaped cake and delicious pizza. Once the dishes are ready parents are invited to share in the feast together with a complimentary glass of coconut water which is in most instances freshly plucked from the nearest tree.

4

Get to Know the Dolphins

The Maldivian archipelago spanning the Indian Ocean is frequented by schools of playful dolphins. Kids love the gentle mammals and their acrobatics. Take a boat tour across the ocean to some of the places frequented by dolphin schools and watch in fascinating as the fish jump spin and enjoy the glistening waters to the delight of your children.

5

Snorkelling for Children

Snorkelling requires next to no skills. If your kids can swim that is all that's needed. Expert instructors are available to teach kids as young as 3 the art of snorkelling. Kids will love spotting the myriad of marine life visible around the shallow reefs and like the verdant house reef of Kandolhu Island Maldives, there are many safe coral formations for children to explore.

6

Look for Kids Clubs

Some resorts offer kids clubs as part of their services. These are run by well-trained childminders who come up with a number of interesting activities for children. From beach activities of picking shells to baking and building sandcastles, these kids clubs are quite a boon to parents as well.
