Maldivian sights not to Miss – Savour the Tropics

Gorgeous Maldivian archipelago is a haven of tropical delights. From stunning sunsets to sun-bleached beaches and glistening oceans the place is a kaleidoscope of colours and hypnotic sights.

1

Below the Waves

Below the surface of the Indian Ocean are perhaps the best Maldivian sights. A thriving marine eco-system will stun awe and mesmerize you like no other destination in the tropics. Banana Reef was one of the first discovered dive points on the archipelago. Named for its 'banana' shape the reef harbours a multitude of marine life as well as corals. Sharks, eels, school of coral fish and many more fascinating species are to be spotted there.

2

Hukuru Miskiiy

Also known as the Old Friday Mosque this is the oldest in the Maldives. A beautiful vintage structure created in 1656 the mosque has walls of pink coral inscribed with Arabic scripts. Decorative and traditional wooden doors and panels enhance the place, highlighting the utterly serene ambience that permeates the entire compound. The adjoining cemetery is home to elegant tombs that mark the final resting place of kings, queens, sultans and national heroes.

3

The Fish Market

Not for the squeamish but highly recommended for a taste of local culture and flavour the Fish Market located on Male is quite a sight. Noted as the 'soul' of Male the fish market is where you watch all the action as huge loads of octopus, grouper, tuna and much more are brought in, gutted and sold.

4

The Artificial Beach

The artificial beach is located on the capital Male; the main island just 25 minutes from Baros Maldives no longer having space for its own beach has compensated with a manmade structure. Located within the eastern recreational centre of Male the beach is made around the breakwater tetrapods. Quite a holiday atmosphere prevails there with lots of sunny cafes and restaurants servicing beach goers. If you wander further along towards the airport ferry area you will stumble upon Majeediya Carnival and fairground attractions that include a bowling alley and a range of eateries.

5

Sultans Park

Located close to most Maldives resorts Sultans Park is one of the most scenic public places in Male. Once part of the Sultans Palace grounds the park is a riot of colours and tropical blooms. Ideal for spending some quality time soaking up the sea breeze and serene atmosphere, Sultans Park is a great family recreation site.

6

The Grand Friday Mosque and Islamic Centre

The Golden Dome of the country's largest mosque is certainly one of the most impressive sights in Maldives. It is now one of the city's iconic symbols visible for miles. Opened in 1984 the mosque is quite stunning although the entire structure is made of white marble sans any form of decoration.

The Stunning Sun Sets of Maldives

Whether you are sitting in a sun-bleached beach of white sand or sailing into the horizon on a luxury yacht the gorgeous sunsets of Maldives are probably the best sights to witness there. Take time off by evening to head over to the beach of your Maldives resorts, sit back relax and let the mesmerizing rays of the setting sun leave you with a million memories of paradise.
