4 Interesting Things to do in Dalian – Plenty of fun outdoor activities for everyone

If you're thinking of stopping by the port city of Dalian during your visit to China, here are a few places you can check out while you're there.

1

Tiger Beach Park

Also known as Laohutan Ocean Park, Tiger Beach Park is located near the southernmost end of the town and sees an influx of tourists of over two hundred million each year. Spanning over 1.8 million square metres, this ocean park is the biggest of its kind in China and has many manmade attractions such as the Polar Region Marine Animals World and Tiger Sculpture Square in addition to shopping and recreational watersport activities. The Polar Region Marine Animals World features the usual polar animals like polar bears and dolphins, but also those that you'd be hard pressed to see elsewhere such as sea otters, beluga whales, and sea elephants. If you want to properly explore this ocean park, consider staying at one of the Dalian hotel apartments that are available for short stays such as the Citadines Gugeng Dalian and similar others.

2

Xinghai Park

Near the Malan River in Dalian, lies Xinghai Park, on the western end of Beach Road. This popular site is home to a massive garden as well as a manmade beach. People flock here to engage in various activities such as swimming, diving, boating, fishing and camping, and best of all, there's no entrance charge; entry to the park is absolutely free. Xinghai Park is usually open all day from around half past seven in the morning to half-past five in the evening, and there are several buses that run between the park and different areas of the city.

3

Dalian Discovery Kingdom

Currently, the biggest amusement park in all of Liaoning, its name loosely translates from Mandarin as the Dalian Kingdom of Discovery. The park contains six different zones all following a unique theme: the Wedding Palace, Legend Castle, Metal Factory, Magic Forest, Crazy Town and Mysterious Desert. The Dalian Discovery Kingdom has several water and roller coaster rides as well as a range of other amusements, and at night, visitors can enjoy fireworks displays to bring their day out at the park to a glorious end. If you're planning on traveling to Dalian with children , this park is a must-visit attraction. However, do note that Dalian Discovery Kingdom closes its doors during the winter season, so it's best to visit it during the summer or Easter holidays and not the Christmas holidays.

4

Zhongshan Square

Situated in the centre of Dalian's financial district on the easternmost edge of the city, Zhongshan Square derives its name from the Republic of China's first president, Sun Zhongshan. The square's original design was conceptualized and brought to fruition by the Russians who undertook its construction in the late 19th century. Spanning over two hundred and thirteen metres, the square plays host to dances and other recreational as well as educational gatherings and conventions that may be interesting to check out while you are in the city.
