Most Popular Beaches in Koh Samui - When in Samui, Here's Where to Beach

Pristine sands, frolicking waves, swaying palms and holiday in the air! Koh Samui is indeed a beautiful escape. Here are 5 of the best beaches in this little slice of paradise that you should visit.

1

Chaweng Beach

Are you a party animal? Then Chaweng Beach is for you. Samui's most popular and largest beach has a lot to offer for those seeking nightlife. It's renowned Green Mango strip is home to a smorgasbord of party venues that range from sophisticated cocktail bars to pubs, girly bars, and dance bars. There's even a McDonalds should you crave for some fried chicken at night.

Chaweng Beach is famous for its Full Moon Parties that are so happening that they last until the wee hours of the day. Just make sure to not bring any valuables to the party and do not eat or drink anything offered by strangers. After taking these precautions all you have to do is party hard!

2

Lamai Beach

The second largest resort area in Samui after Chaweng, the Lamai Beach is more peaceful and less busy than its big sister. There's still a decent amount of restaurants, shopping and spa options, though. The beach is where the Wat Lamai Temple is located as well as the Wat Khunaram, which houses Samui's most famous mummified monk, Loung Pordaeng. But the true highlights of Lamai Beach are the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks which are in a rather 'interesting' shape. Known as Hin Ta Hin Yai in the local tongue, the rocks are said to be the transformed bodies of an aged couple that washed up on the beach.

3

Bophut Beach

One of Samui's finest and most peaceful of beaches, the Bophut Beach is located on the northern coast of Koh Samui. The beach is well known for its Thai-Chinese atmosphere and the charming fisherman's village that is towards the east.

Relaxation is the main theme of this beach and there is quite a number of spa's where one goes to experience a rejuvenating treatment. However, if you don't know the area very well, it's advisable to choose a spa at a reputed Samui beach resort the likes of the spa at the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort; as even in Samui, you cannot be sure of avoiding any fishy business. Apart from hitting the spas and swimming, you can try out jet skiing and scuba diving at Bophut beach.

4

Mae Nam Beach

Maenam Beach is the hangout spot in Samui for backpackers due to the large amount of cheap accommodation, dining and bar options. The beach is also famed for offering excellent views of Koh Phangan and the sunset from the beach is said to be simply amazing.

The 7 km stretch of beach contains pristine sands that are fringed by a lush grove of coconuts. So, lie down with a good book and just chill.

5

Lipa Noi Beach

If you want to escape the crowds and enjoy calm peace, Lipa Noi is where you should head over to. Situated in an isolated location, it is extremely close to the island's main car ferry pier, making travelling to the beach quite convenient. The shallow waters have no rocks or corals found in its bed, making it a safe beach for kids to swim in.
