Spring Into Smart Jewelry Care

Spring is in the air and many of us are happy that the winter season is finally over! As we eagerly wait to spend time outdoors and soak up the sun, we can now get outside to enjoy some spring activities like gardening, opening up the pool and washing the car.

1

Don’t wear jewelry while washing the car

Getting your car nice and clean can be a fun and relaxing activity but it’s important that you are not wearing your jewelry as you wash the car! The bucket of soapy water can affect the finish of your jewelry, so don’t dunk your hand in the bucket with your jewelry on. Additionally, while you are washing your vehicle, you may accidently bump your hand into the car, which can not only damage the paint on your car, but also damage the jewelry. On top of that, be sure you are not wearing a lengthy necklace because it could graze the vehicle as you are washing it and it’ll scratch the finish.

2

Don’t garden with jewelry on

If you are planting some flowers or doing general yard work, the smartest thing to do is to remove your jewelry. Taking your jewelry off and keeping it in a safe place is the smartest and easiest way to keep it clean while you get your hand dirty!

3

Wear gloves

Some of us are not comfortable with removing some pieces of jewelry and if that’s the case, wear gloves while you’re gardening. Just keep in mind that gloves will only provide rings with protection and things like bracelets could get dirty if you leave them on.

4

Never wear jewelry in the pool

If you are preparing to open your pool or hot tub this season, never ever wear your jewelry. This rule of thumb also applies to when you want to take a dip! The pool/hot tub chemicals like chlorine can drastically damage the finish on your fine silver jewelry and it could ruin its’ appearance. With that said, do not wear your jewelry if you will be coming in contact with pool/hot tub water.

5

Remove jewelry inside

Before you head outside for any of the above activities, make sure you remove your jewelry in the house. Imagine that you are planting flowers and you decide to take that gorgeous ring off and place it on your kneeling pad. Well, you may have accidently knocked into it and now the ring is either in the grass or mixed into the soil…talk about a treasure hunt. Keep your fine jewelry safe by taking it off indoors and placing it in anti-tarnish bags for proper silver care.
