Beaches in Salalah – The Best in Oman

Salalah is undoubtedly the best seaside resort in Oman. Sitting along the Dhofar Coast this area is rich in traditional customs, culture, history and stunning landscapes.

Mughsail Beach

Loved for its excellent swells Mughsail is also home to a blow hole that at given times shoots a tower of water almost a 100 feet high. Running along the shore is a rock shelf that will prove ideal for leisurely walks lulled by the crashing sound of waves. Blue skies and soothing winds welcome you as stunning scenery unfolds towards the end of the sandy beach; this gives way to rugged cliffs and mountain backdrops. Mughsail is a beach for all nature lovers as it extends a total of 8kms and is rarely crowded; instead, Mughsail is known for its collection of migratory birds which are a treat to observe. And if you make it to the beach in the early hours of the morning chances of spotting a few camels there are quite high.

Al Baleed

Explore the southern coast of Dhofar promising plenty of lagoon and beach action. Wedged between a strip of land with ocean and lagoon on either side this area is occupied by excellent Salalah hotels of the likes of Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara that provides easy access to many of the stunning beaches and places of interest. Being in close proximity to the Al Baleed Archaeological Park which is deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site the area offers you a choice of both chilling on one of Oman's best beaches and absorbing ancient history. The freshwater lagoon, of course, is quite a bonus and boat tours across its expanse will reward you with sights of ancient ruins of Al Baleed City which by the way was once visited by Marco Polo. If you are looking for the best beach resort Salalah has to offer Al Baleed would deliver as the area is quite tourist oriented and offers a variety of water sports such as snorkelling, diving, kayaking and boating.

Rakhyut Beach

The charming town of Rakhyut is located close to the Yemeni Border along the west coast of Salalah. If you are hankering for a stunningly picturesque and deserted beach to chill on it does not get any better that Rakhyut. Surfing, of course, is excellent at this point with the monsoon season bringing excellent swells from the Indian Ocean. This being a deserted beach though it is wise to keep others informed of your surfing activities when heading out to Rakhyut. The beach and quaint town are ideal for sightseeing and relaxing; soak up the laid back ambience, plan a picnic on the beach and simply unwind.
