Man Made Islands in Dubai – Amazing Architecture

The resounding success of Palm Jumeirah a manmade archipelago has inspired Dubai visionaries to create more of these wonders. Read on and decide if Palm Jumeirah is the 8th wonder of the world.

1

The World Archipelago

Quite audacious The World is a man made archipelago of islands that form the shape of the world map. Hence it's other name The World Map Archipelago. Get online and check out the bird's eye view of the islands and you will see how genius engineering has indeed created a set of islands to resemble the world map. Sitting within the Persian Gulf just 4kms off the Dubai shore the collection of 300 private islands is a visionary project that foresees the future in off shore development. Islands are categorised as estate homes, private homes, community islands and of course dream resorts which are quite similar to the fabulous Palm Jumeirah hotels. The project which is still underway has seen many islands like Great Britain and Europe already been snapped up by private investors.

Palm Jumeirah – Possibly the World's 8th Wonder

Coined the 8th wonder of the world by Dubai, the Palm Jumeirah was the city's first ambitious project that spearheaded all other artificial island ventures. Palm Jumeirah is one point of the palm islands project that also includes Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira. The projects reaching out to the Persian Gulf extends the city's shoreline by 520kms. Created in the shape of a palm tree of which the trunk extends to the mainland the Palm Jumeirah islands are accessed via monorail. Luxury Palm Jumeirah resorts are the most popular feature amongst the archipelagos lures. Home to Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort the place offers a variety of entertainment hubs as well.

Palm Jebel Ali

The Palm Jebel Ali is tipped to be twice as large as Palm Jumeirah. Plenty of ambition has gone into this project which hopes to feature six marinas and 4 themed parks that will be called the World of Discovery. One consists of a beautiful water themed park named 'Sea Village which will feature a village of houses built on stilts. Others include Busch Gardens, Aquatica and Discovery Cove. Taking ambition further the boardwalks that make up the palms 'fronds' are designed to spell out an Arabic poem coined by Dubai's Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. On completion the archipelago hopes to provide housing to 250,000 people.

Palm Deira

The Palm Deira is located along the Deira Corniche which is found amidst the Dubai Creek and Al Hamriya Port. In 2008 a new design was re-introduced to the on-going project which on completion is tipped to feature resorts, 1400 retail outlets and an amphitheatre.
