Visit Ancol Dreamland

Also known as Dreampark – Taman Impian Jaya Ancol this is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The best attraction for the entire family this park offers a variety of themed entertainment venues amongst which you could virtually 'lose yourself'. Ancol Dreampark is home to Fantasy World, Ocean Dream Samudra, Atlantis Water Adventure, Sea world, a fabulous collection of beaches and an art market. There is also a variety of sports such as golf, paintball matches, wakeboarding, fun gondola rides, bowling and an eco-park to explore.

The National Museum

It is an iconic attraction that is a breeze to visit from the confines of a well located Jakarta city hotel. The National Museum of Indonesia or musium nasional is just 4kms from Alila Jakarta. The museum located in the city centre on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat offers an insight to the country's archaeological, ethnological, historical and geographical background. The place is most popularly called gedung gajah or the 'elephant building' due to the large elephant statue located there.

Check out the National Monument

On Merdeka Square right in the city centre sits the National Monument of Jakarta. Lovingly called Monas Tower the iconic attraction is a must visit if it's your first time in Jakarta. The monument stands tall and proud as a symbol of pride representing the fight for Indonesia's independence. Built under the directive of President Sukarno the tower is open on a daily basis, exempting the last Monday of every month from 8 am to 3 pm.

The National Gallery

Enjoy a dose of visual arts, culture and some history at the National Gallery of Indonesia. Serving as Jakarta's art gallery the place pays tribute especially to local talents. Some of the best displays are the political caricatures that in their own quirky style chronicle the country's history. Permanent exhibits, as well as constantly changing displays, are quite fascinating as they highlight local and international talent.

The Jakarta Art Theatre

This is a concert hall located in Jakarta; it was built during the Dutch colonial period and sits between Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral. Locally called Gedung Kesenian Jakarta the theatre has a regular programme of performing arts and musical shows to enjoy. Shopping in Jakarta

Last but certainly not least Jakarta is a shopaholic's paradise. Malls and markets cater to all tastes and styles; you can enjoy high end designer shopping as well as some value for money budget shopping. A few places to check out include the Plaza Indonesia of FX Mall for designer products, Blok M for clothes, bags and shoes, Pasar Ikan for souvenirs and Mangga Dua for quality knock offs of popular brands.
