List of things to pack for your beach holiday – Essential items for a beach-cation!

With summer around the corner and your beach body almost ready, here are some essential beach items you shouldn't forget when on holiday.

1

Beach bag

When packing for a beach holiday, always remember to back a beach bag. Chances are, you're not going to be carrying your suitcase to the golden sands. Shop online or go to your nearest beach store, and find that cute beach bag that's big enough to carry all your essentials!

2

Clothing

Think swimsuits and cotton coverups. That's all you need basically! Depending on the length of your beach holiday, pack enough swim wear so you could alternate, while the others dry or get some rest from being in the beach all day. Cotton coverups are light and easy to pack, and are a great solution when you have to grab a meal. Just throw it over and you're all dressed up for a meal! Flipflops are crucial. If you're holiday mainly revolved around lying on the beach or wading through the warm waters of Sri Lanka, then you only need to pack a pair or two of flip flops.

3

Sunhat, Sun glasses and Sunscreen

A beach holiday in Sri Lanka means the warm sunrays can get a bit taxing, especially since the island is located closer to the equator. Buy the highest SPF sunscreen lotion available, this will keep your skin protected from being over exposed and burnt. Pack the biggest sun hat you can find in the store and get the coolest sunglasses before heading to your beach trip. Not to mention, your holiday photographs will be picture perfect!

4

Tech stuff

Being in the millennial age, it's hard to even think of going anywhere, even if its just the beach, without some of your necessary devices. Always ensure your phone is fully charged and maybe consider investing in a power bank. Make sure your camera (if it's different to your phone) is completely charged as well. Other devices such as a tab or Kindle are essential if you plan on sun bathing or just relaxing on the golden shores and need something to keep you occupied.

5

Equipment

Remember to pack beach umbrellas, cooler boxes, beach toys, beach towels, beach blankets, beach chairs, snorkels, floatation devices, goggles etc. If you're travelling with kids, floatation devices are a definite must have. Beach chairs and cooler boxes will ensure everyone has a refreshing beverage during the day and some space to rest away from the sand. Remember to pack plenty of beach towels for your beach trip.

6

Lotion

Moisturising is the KEY to enjoying the after effects of your beach holiday. As salt water can quickly dry out your skin, pack enough body and face lotion to apply on yourself after you're all cleaned up.

7

First aid kit

It's always better to be safe than sorry. Carry essential things you may need in your first aid kit such as band aids, antiseptic creams, anti-bacterial medicines, and some anti biotics just in case anyone has an unfortunate incident during their beach holiday.

8

Personal items

Items such as razors, shampoo and conditioner, soap, personal hygiene products, shaving gel, lip balm, tooth brush and toothpaste should be packed in first. Although these items can also be bought at your nearest grocery store, it's better to pack these too.

9

Maps

Unless you were using one of the many travel agents in Sri Lanka who would help you get to your beach destination, such as Aitken Spence Holidays, you will need to buy a map to help you navigate around the island and find the best beaches!
