Things to do in Glenelg -Getting to know a scenic sleepy city

Whenever you find yourself in a new location, you must try to understand and learn about it more. Here are some activities you can try in Glenelg to know the city all the better.

1

Visit the Bay Discovery Centre

The Bay Discovery Centre in Glenelg is an exhibition centre of sorts, that functions as a museum to the history of the city as well. Located a mere 3-minute walk away from Oaks Plaza Pier, one of the popular hotels in Glenelg, it is within the Town Hall. You can walk through the facility, and engage with the interactive exhibits. It tells you of the early days of Glenelg when it was nothing but a mere dot on the map. The art gallery of the Centre features South Australian artists on a roster. The Bay Discovery Centre is open all days of the year except Good Friday, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day, from 10 am to 5 pm.

2

Entertainment for kids

An interesting feature of Glenelg is that it does not have its own movie theatre. Although this is hardly a problem with several theatres within easy reach, it tells you something about the nature of the city. However, kids would not need a movie to distract them while here, as there is plenty to do! If you visit during school holidays, the kids can take part in a "treasure hunt" where they are given a map and clues to find the treasure. The trail leads through key places in Glenelg making it an education experience as well. In addition, there are plenty of indoor activity centres and playgrounds in the area.

3

Enjoy a relaxed nightlife

Glenelg nightlife is unlike the usual. While you do have a few nightclubs and bars, they often close early during the weekdays. Over the weekends, even the cafes tend to stay open til late. If you are keen to try the nightlife here, you can drop into a karaoke bar and have a fun night with friends. Sunday is the ideal day for other visits as almost all pubs, bars, and clubs have "Sunday Entertainment" where they put on their best show.

4

Walks and Trails

With the industrial entertainment on the low, it is only natural that nature has taken precedence. There are many walks and trails in Glenelg with spectacular views. The city has facilitated such excursions by building labelled trails, as well as cycling paths. If you head over to the city information centre, you can rent a cycle, obtain a map, and have a chat to determine the best route for a cycling tour in order to see the beauty of Glenelg.

5

Shopping

Glenelg itself has a number of shops that will definitely provide you with everything you are looking for. If this does not seem enough to you, you can always try the malls at Harbour Town or drop in on the shops down Jetty Road.
