Speak into the app and have it translate your text to written word and an oral interpretation with a robo-voice. Use the camera to hover Google Translate's app over any word or phrase in a foreign language, and it will instantly translate the text for you!
  • Classroom Uses: ESL -- use to improve communication with struggling students and/or their parents.
Google Photos
  • *What Is It? *All your photos are backed up safely, organized and labeled automatically, so you can find them fast and share them how you like. The organization isn't perfect, but it's good enough so that you don't have to worry about doing it at a later time.
  • Classroom Uses: automatically upload and organize all classroom photos to the cloud. Could give access to your team, the school webmaster, students, and/or parents.

Google Photo Scan

Google Photo Scan
  • *What Is It? *An app (for iOS or Android) that allows users to scan a physical photo, and then the app automatically crops it and takes out any glare. You can even scan photos inside a picture frame, and the app will automatically crop out the frame!

  • Classroom Uses: Create a Space for your class, the Room Moms, etc. and allow everyone to collaborate. For students, you could even make it a homework Q&A space, a digital parking lot, or a study group.
Google Tone
  • What Is It? A Chrome extension that allows users to share a "tone" which broadcasts any any URL to computers within earshot.
  • Classroom Uses: If students are using computers or Chromebooks and have access to the device's microphone, this is a super-quick and easy way to send a link to kids without having to wait for them to type in URLs (reminds me a of AirDrop but for computers using the Chrome browser).
Google URL Shortener
  • What Is It? Shorten links and/or snag a QR code in seconds. Go back later to view analytics on the link. Add the Chrome extension to make the process even quicker from devices that use the Chrome browser.
  • Classroom Uses: Quickly create shortened links and/or QR codes so students don't have to waste valuable instruction time typing long URLs into their devices.
  • What Is It? "Google's Resume Builder lets you create a professional-looking resume in a flash. It connects to your Google Drive account, which means your resume will be secure, easy to edit, and shareable with whoever you'd like. You can even download it as a PDF. To get started, just sign in with your Google account."
  • ** Classroom Uses:** I'd find this especially useful during a business unit or in a high school class -- allow kids to create a resume with your help, advise, and supervision.
Google Voice
  • What Is It? Creates an extra, free phone number that can connect to any other line you have (land line, cell phone, etc.). Text and call from it just like you would a regular phone number without ever revealing other personal information (such as your real cell phone number). Voicemails are automatically transcribed for you. Choose office hours so that this number will only ring when you want it to. Pay a nominal fee to change the number if you ever have a need to do so.
  • *Classroom Uses: * Create a Google Voice number and call parents from your cell phone without worry about your personal information getting out. I even know one teacher who gave her GV number to high school students so they could text her for homework help during set office hours.

  • What Is It? A site dedicated to exploring solar flights (flights powered only by the sun -- with no fuel or polluting emissions) launching around the world. Review a pilot’s vital signs and track these planes live. Data is instantaneous. -** Classroom Uses:** Science - use in a force and motion unit or a lesson about environmental resources
  • What Is It? Embark on a journey that takes you all over the world -- from the most desolate roads in Australia to the busy, bustling streets of New York City. Compete with others to “name that place” by guessing the location of a street view image on a Google Map.
  • *Classroom Uses: * Social Studies -- challenge students to use what they already know about the world to win the game. Use GeoSettr to create your own GeoGuessr challenges for you and your students.
