Two floors up in a grand corner building, you enter into a corridor lined with contemporary furniture. There’s a narrow kitchen on your right, where mirrored cabinets gleam. And the next door along leads to another hall, with the blue bathroom and separate toilet to your right and the master bedroom straight ahead.

Built in 1913, with original herringbone floors and fireplaces, this home is traditionally Parisian. Beneath the ornate cornicing and high ceilings you’ll find the furnishings are rich with history – the walnut cabinet was carved by an ancestor from the family’s own trees, while the double bedroom’s armoire is a market find from Alsace. The streets of Montparnasse are as historical: there are long-established cafés nearby, as well as the authentic French cuisine of your host’s favourite restaurant, Le Gagnage.

Glossy antiques, sleek contemporary pieces and flamboyant accessories – there’s much that sparkles inside this Montparnasse home. Your host works in fashion, and that’s obvious from the moment you enter the eighth-floor hallway. First on the left, there’s the kitchen. Through the kitchen window, there’s a suggestion of the impressive view to come on the roof terrace. Next along is the panelled dining room, its mirror-topped table encircled by exotically printed chairs. Then on the right there’s the sitting room, where slouchy sofas (topped with twilight-toned cushions) face an ornate fireplace, and the adjoining office space.
