The struggles these women fought against in life was still a struggle long after they had been laid to rest.

It took seventy-six years to return The Woman Movement to the Rotunda; in comparison, it took women seventy-two years to gain the right to vote (National Museum of Women's History 1997 a:4) "The fate of this statue is significant because it tells us a lot about how to tell the American story and create a public memory. Women's history and the struggle for women have been typically unimportant and forgettable, as is graphically illustrated by the saga of the statue of the three leaders of the women's suffrage movement" (Radford-Ruether 1996)
