Glossophobia- The fear of public speech

Glossophobia- The fear of public speech

This fear is about a person being scared to say a speech in front a crowd, even if its a couple of people. This is the most fear common on this list. When on a stage the person freaks out and usually does weird and/or embarrassing things. These people with Glossophobia try to avoid going in front of people altogether. They might even fear standing up and talking to their own family . This fear is the most common for children, then fades away at adult age. Symptoms of this fear when triggered are panic attacks with sweating or trembling (shaking), dry mouth, feel tense and/or weak, stuttering/quivering voice, and stiffness in body; mostly in the neck and back areas. People with Glossophobia normally also have low self-esteem when doing things. Causes of this fear are unknown, but some speculate if an a adult or teen that in the past had something embarrassing or wrong happened with the person and now they are scared to go and stand up to speak. Normal anxiety on the stage may also be the cause of Glossophobia if standing in front of a crowd or people. There is lots of treatment for this fear. This fear is common.

A common fear for air flyers, Aerophobia is where a person is scared to go on a plane and when when on a plane, can't help to be scared. Causes of this fear are from being born and getting it, bad past events with planes and flying, or developing it from the fear of heights. Main symptoms of this fear when triggered are major panic attacks,,having stress and dizziness while boarding the flight. This fear is a common fear with 25% of people boarding on planes and flying.

A common fear, this fear is the fear of heights or the fear of falling. This fear is about the person feeling like they going to fall off, die, lose balance, faint during on a high building even if the building structure is not that high. When the person feels like this, they might be scared to climb or walk down the stairs of the building/structure. There are no symptoms found, but in a situation like this, the three main responses to the fear when triggered are anxiety, panic and fear. The person can also experience muscle tension, headaches, panic attacks, palpitations, or dizziness; the person can even faint. This phobia can be caused by being on a high building and looking down or having this fear at birth from a parent. About 10% people are known in the United States to suffer from Acrophobia/ the fear of heights or falling

This phobia is about the person being scared of germs all around them. They fear getting contaminated from dirt, dust, grime or people who are sneezing or coughing. Do not confuse this to a regular person who cleans every day, this fear changes a person by them worrying about germs all the time. This fear can make the person also not using public bathrooms, not coming in contact with sick people, refusing to share combs, brushes, or any tools, and washing their hands all the time. This fear can be mostly caused by learning about germs, getting sick about germs and worrying about getting sick again, or from false information about germs on social media.

This fear is about a person being feared of being small or enclosed spaces. People who have this fear are usually scared of elevators , tunnels, caves, mines, small rooms, offices, and airplanes. People who have this fear might get it from having high anxiety. Other ways people can develop claustrophobia by if they were trapped in a closet or small space or if they were punished into these areas. When people who have this fear and are in these confined areas, they may develop these symptoms, hyperventilation, accelerated heartbeat, sweating, fainting, feeling sick or nauseated, shaking, and not being able to breathe. These people might want to find a way out of the area and not think about anything else, even if that thought is really important. To 5% to 7% of people in the world suffer from Claustrophobia. Though it is hard, there is treatment for this fear.

This is the fear of holes. This fear not only includes ground holes, but all holes, including holes in sponges, cheese, shower drains, etc. Trypophobia makes a person scared of holes, usually small holes, like in pores and wood.
The only symptoms of this fear are when people see a hole, it usually cause panic and fear. Causes of this fear can be in childhood, having bad dreams of holes, having rashes or skin blisters that typically follow an episode of measles or chicken pox. Scientists are still trying to be found causes of this fear since there aren't really any. This fear is one of the most confusing fears for scientists to find things. It is unknown how many people in the world have this fear.

If you hate this image because of the spider, or cringe at it, you probably have the fear of spiders. Arachnophobia is when a person freaks out or gets scared when they see a spider. Usually the person with the fear then asks a person to kill the spider or to just stay away from the room or place the spider is in. Causes of this fear are learning about spiders or the fear itself and then developing it, past experience with spiders, or can get it from birth from traits of your ancestors. Some symptoms of this phobia when encountering a spider is fast heart rate, dizziness, chest pain, feeling like you are chocking, thoughts of death (spider killing you), sweat, and Nausea. This fear has 30% of people scared of it alone in the USA In the UK 32% women and 18% men.

Enochlophobia is the fear of crowds/crowded spaces. This fear also consists a person with the fear to also be scared of gatherings of people like group meetings. Enochlophobia is like the phobia Agoraphobia which is the fear of being trapped; this fear is also like Glossophobia (fear of public speech) which being in front of a large crowd on a stage. Causes can be if a crowd is too noisy, stressful events with crowds or groups of people, or they just like to be alone. Symptoms of Enochlophobia are when triggered can't tell the difference between reality and unreality, the feeling of not being able to breathe or the feeling of being choked, mild anxiety that can turn into a heart attack, shaking and trembling, sweating, upset stomach, nausea, gastrointestinal distress, and increased heart rate and blood pressure. This fear is not that common unless a person has really bad anxiety.

This fear is about a person being scared of dying, the talk or thought of death. A person with this fear might even avoid to come out of their own home and hide just because they think they will die if they go out in the open world. Causes of this fear are learning about how death is unavoidable as a child or someone in the persons family dying. Symptoms of Thanatophobia are when triggered are physical: dizziness, dry mouth, sweating, palpitations, nausea, stomach pain, trembling, sensation of choking, chest pain or discomfort, hot or cold flashes, numbness and tingling sensations. Mental: Loss of control- feeling of going crazy with automatic or uncontrollable reactions, repetition of gory thoughts, inability to distinguish between reality and unreality. And emotional: desire to flee and escape from current situation, extreme avoidance, persistent worry and terrifying or overwhelming thoughts. Additionally, anger, sadness and guilt may also be present. This fear is common if a person has anxiety.

Astraphobia is a person being scared of thunder and lightning. Causes of this fear are when a child experiences a shock near them, lost a family member by lightning, or learn lightning somehow and got scared of it. Symptoms of Astraphobia when triggered are Fainting, Sweating, shaking, heart rate, shallow breathing gasping, feeling like being choked hiding in basement, bathroom, closet constantly watching out for signs of storm, looking on TV particularly to the weather channel to protect themselves, crying or seeking constant assurance during a storm closing windows, doors and curtains and trying to block out sounds of the storm, nausea, vomiting and freezing, refusing to move from the place due to the fear of thunder/lightning striking him, had having thoughts of death by a shock. This fear is the most common from children.
