Seychelles may be small in size, but it certainly is a worthy contender to larger nations when it comes to events and celebrations. Here are some events you can try out when in Seychelles.

Cultural Bazaars

Usually taking place in Mahe, cultural bazaars are the perfect way to soak up authentic Seychellois culture while stocking up on some quality goods. Cultural Bazaars usually happens once a month or so, at Victoria Bazaar and Bazaar Ovan. The streets come alive with Creole music, and the thumping of drums is accompanied by the lively tunes of the vendors. It is an atmosphere that is indescribable.

Seychelles International Carnival

The International Carnival of Seychelles is scheduled to take place in April 2017. It is an extravagant event planned to span over three days, with a colourful parade exhibiting floats from all over the world. International experts and performers in carnivals have been invited to join the festivities, and it is expected to be one memorable event in 2017. FetAfrik

Every year in May, Seychelles celebrates its identity on the National Africa Day. This is a beautiful blend of African culture and Seychelles Creole heritage brought to life via art, music, dance, and various forms of performances. It is lively, colourful, and above all, celebrates what it is to be African. First held in 1999, FetAfrik has come a long way, now with photographers and artists present at the event to immortalize it on film and canvas.

Feast of the Assumption of Mary

August is the month where entire Seychelles celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, the biggest religious celebration in this Christian country. Feasts are spread far and wide across the islands, the largest celebration being held at Church of La Digue. The church is located on the smallest of the three main islands of Seychelles, Anse Reunion, but sees people from all the islands coming here to celebrate the Assumption of Mary.

World Tourism Day

This is the one event on the calendar that has every resort in Seychelles excited. The purpose of the day is to highlight the importance of tourism for Seychelles. For days preceding the actual World Tourism Day, different activities take place at key tourist attraction areas. Tourists are welcomed with music at the airport, and there is a sense of festivities wherever you go.

If you know anything about Seychelles, it should be that Creole is an integral part of their culture. In November every year, the Festival Kreole takes place over the period of a week. This is your opportunity to let your hair down and join the locals in their Creole cuisine, music, art, dance and way of life. It is a colourful and vibrant festival that brings forth the essence of Seychelles.
