Passikudah in Sri Lanka is a beautiful coastal town towards the East of the country. There are plenty of reasons to justify paying a visit there, the following being just a few of them.

Batticaloa Lagoon is a curious creation of nature. There are several islands scatters through the lagoon such as Buffalo Island, Bone Island, and Puliyantheevu Island. You need not seek help from a car rental in Sri Lanka to explore these islands as they are all interconnected via bridges and walkways. It is recommended that you walk through the network of islands to better understand its beauty. However, the most alluring feature of the Lagoon is its singing fish. If you visit the Lagoon on nights of the full moon in April or September, you would hear a low thrum emanating from the water. To best hear this musical miracle, go out to sea in a boat, and lean your ear against the submerged oar. You will be treated to a rhythm unlike any you have heard before.

There are three hotspots for whale watching in Sri Lanka: Mirissa, Kalpitiya, and Trincomalee. Trincomalee is just a hop away from Passikudah, thus making it a perfect activity for you to do while here. You will have to set off quite early, though, as it is during the morning hours that most spotting is reported. You will be able to see Sperm Whales and Blue Whales; and quite often, giddy dolphins frolicking about. The best time to visit for whale watching is from March to August.
