Must Visit Attractions in Middlemount

Referred to as the 'giant peanut' by local residents, Middlemount is located in the far north-east of Australia, and despite being a small town, there are some wonderful sights on offer.

1

Middlemount Shopping Complex

Middlemount Shopping Complex

Middlemount's shopping complex is probably the heart and soul of central Middlemount and features a host of establishments. Situated in central Middlemount close by to Oaks Middlemount, an easy to find Middlemount hotel Australia has to offer, the complex features everything from fashion stores to butchery. There are a few medical outlets ranging from the local pharmacist, chemist and even a medical centre located at the shopping complex. Some of Middlemount's notable eateries are also located within the mall, such as 'Lemon Tree', a popular place for getting take-out food.

Blue Mountain park

Blue Mountain park

Affectionately referred to as Middlemount's 'Jewel in the Crown', this park offers serenity within natural splendour. The beautiful setting of Blue Mountain Park makes it a prime destination for family picnics and romantic hangouts. There's also a fair degree of gentle wildlife to be glimpsed within the park's expanse. On any given day you'll probably witness a few wallabies eating amidst the wilderness. Bird-watchers are bound to have very rewarding experiences since the park is home to a host of species such as Blue Mountain Parrots and Rainbow Lorikeets.

Located just opposite the shopping complex, the leisure centre provides many delightful ways to enjoy a few relaxing recreational activities as well as some food favourites. The centre features a gym along with a café for those seeking to exercise the mind with some reading or looking for a quiet place to work on some intellectual projects. The 'Hot Rocks' Pizza outlet located here is also very frequented and is one of the most popular eateries in the Middletown area. The leisure centre even has a hairdressing salon.

Bundoora Dam

Bundoora Dam

This spectacular man-made creation contains more than ten thousand megalitres of water and is breathtakingly beautiful. Although the dam was initially built for mining purposes, it is now exclusively used as a relaxing retreat and site for camping as well as fishing. There's an abundance of fish species to be found so you're guaranteed to not leave empty handed, just be sure to not ride your boat faster than six knots, which is the imposed limit. The Bundoora Dam is an ideal spot for camping and comes equipped with many amenities such as picnic tables and the daily essentials.

Middlemount Coal Mines

Middlemount Coal Mines

This is what put Middlemount on the map, since it is essentially a mining town. The German Creek Coal Mine is notable for being the deepest of its kind in all of Queensland. It is also state-of-the-art in terms of technology, and runs Australia's only 'thin-seam' underground coal mine. So, if you're taking a visit to the charming town of Middlemount, be sure to check out the iconic coal mines that are the reason for the entire town's existence as well as being part of its heritage. A massive coal mine can definitely be regarded as containing some sort of adventure.
