You will see that the church takes the shape of a cross featuring impressive Doric columns. Visitors will notice that the walls and floor of this place of worship are partly composed of the tombstones of numerous European colonialists who died whilst on the island. Visitors will be enthralled by the handsome wooden pulpit and distinctive baptismal stand. Another feature of interest is the beautiful window featuring stained glass.
The well-known Galle Lighthouse is a popular sightseeing attraction that is frequented by many curious visitors. This lighthouse stands no less than 18 m in height and was constructed in the year 1939. Interestingly this lighthouse was constructed by the British colonialists who by this time had taken the place of the Dutch. If you obtain the permission of the keeper of the lighthouse you will have the opportunity to climb up to the upper level of the lighthouse. Although this is, in fact, a private museum you will find that it can be entered without any charge. This establishment is well-known for its extensive collection of memorabilia relating to the British colonial period. You will find a myriad of engrossing artefacts here, including guns, maps and other interesting exhibits. Visitors will also have the opportunity to observe various local craft activities in progress here, including exhibitions of the art of lace making.
