7 Ways You Can Fight Hunger Today

There are many ways to help fight hunger in your own community.

Donate Time

The Food Bank is always in need of volunteers. We have opportunities for long-term volunteers, many of whom are retired and come to the Food Bank to give back, while staying busy. We also have opportunities for individuals and groups who would like to come in during regular business hours to spend some time at the Food Bank sorting produce, labeling cans or processing cereal donations. We also have regular scheduled volunteer opportunities. On the third Saturday of the month, we hold Family Matters Day, when groups and individuals can volunteers at the Food Bank from 9 a.m. to Noon. We also have Food Bank Friday, which happens on the first Friday of the month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Corporate groups are also welcome to use our Community Room for a meeting or luncheon before or after a scheduled volunteer time. If you are interested in volunteering at the Food Bank, we have something just for you. Call us at 269-441-4438 or email our Volunteer Manager Niaomi Curtis at ncurtis@foodbankofscm.org to schedule your next opportunity.

Become A Monthly Donor

When you sign up to be a monthly donor at www.foodbankofscm.org, you ensure that the Food Bank has a steady supply of income throughout the year. People tend to think about hunger during the holidays and make donations at the end of the year; but hunger happens every day and becoming a sustaining donor helps the Food Bank be ready to help when those needs arise - be it during the summer months when childhood hunger is prevalent or in the fall when the bounty of produce is available and the Food Bank needs funding to get it where it needs to go. It's easy to sign up and just $10 a month can provide 2,250 lbs. of fresh produce in a year. 720 meals for a senior who has to decide between food and medicine. An After School Pack for a hungry child for 32 weeks. It's incredible what we can do when we all give a little. We can do a lot.
