Beautiful Waterfalls in Koh Phangan Island – Amazing Oases of Refreshment

The waterfalls on the island vary in size and popularity; each offering its own unique allure. There are plenty waiting to be discovered promising chances of a refreshing dip and enjoyment of nature's best.

Than Sadet Waterfall

Consisting of gorgeous streams and clear pools the beautiful Than Sadet falls are the most famous on Koh Phangan. There is also some historical significance to the place as it was first paid a visit by the king himself; when in 1880 King Rama IV on a visit left a lasting inscription on the rock. Since then more royalty have visited the very popular waterfall including last King Bhumibol. The waters of Than Sadet Waterfall are considered sacred and used for all royal ceremonies. The falls are made of 3 veins; Thong Naan, Deang and Saampon. Linked by rock boulders, pools and streams the falls span a distance of 3kms, an endeavour that all hiking fans and nature lovers will enjoy.

Phaeng Waterfall

Just after the wet season is the best time to visit these grand falls which are quite stunning. The waterfall belongs to the islands national park and is found at the centre of Koh Phangan. Phaeng consists of 2 falls; Phaeng Yai the big fall and Phaeng Noi the smaller one. On your trek to the falls you will first come to Phaeng Noi while it must be noted the summit of the steep falls is inaccessible.

Wang Sai Waterfall

Located close to Mae Haad around the North West coastline of Koh Phangan, Wang Sai waterfall offers several pools for visitors to cool off in. It is not the largest on the island but is popular for the large stretch of fresh water to bathe in. The place is quite a treat for nature lovers as the region is home to a marvellous collection of tropical foliage and rock formations. The most beautiful feature there is the limestone basins at the foot of the falls. These glow in an iridescent colour of bluish-green water that eventually spills into the inviting pool.

Than Prawet Waterfall

Another waterfall that can be easily reached from your Koh Phangan resort is Than Prawet Waterfall. The place is in fact described as a hikers dream. Of all the beautiful waterfalls in Thailand, this is one of the most popular; mainly due to the gorgeous environs. Quite a treat to discover on a day away from the pretty beaches of Koh Phangan the waterfall is close to the likes of Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas; just one of the many resorts on the island offering easy access to the inner sanctuaries of the Koh Phangan.

Paradise Waterfall

This waterfall is a breeze to get to as it is located along the Thongsala – Chaloklum road. The falls are quite impressive just after the rainy season when the water is at its fullest. The water gushes over several rock formations to collect in two inviting pools at the base.
