Types of Weight Loss Hypnosis

Any clients who come in for weight loss need to have their programs tailored to their individual needs as each person will experience a different problem. Here are just some of the issues we need to tackle when dealing with a weight loss client.

Emotional Eating

Emotional Eating

Emotional Eating patterns often start in childhood. The child learns that by eating certain foods it helps them feel better about certain situations. These problems could be relatively minor or more significant depending on their life experience. Situations could include bullying, changing school, lack of confidence, stress, anxiety, worry or parental divorce. Once the behaviour has been learned it becomes an unconscious habit. This means that food will be the first thing they turn to every time they experience similar problems in adulthood.

Had a bad day at work? Had a row with your partner? Got stuck in a traffic jam? All of these incidents can make us feel upset, angry or annoyed. Food then becomes a pacifier a way of forgetting about the problem for a while as you become distracted. We help our clients learn to break this habit.

Sugar Addiction

Sugar Addiction

Believe it or not if you are a real sugar addict you are unlikely to be significantly overweight as most of your calories will be coming from sweets and chocolates and you will be ignoring other food groups. That said sugar can be a real problem for many people impacting their health and rotting their teeth. Sugar can often be wrapped up with the emotion for love. Eating the sugar reminds the person of the family member or friend who would give them sweet treats. It can also just be a bad habit and the cycle needs to be broken.

Food Cravings

Many of our clients find it difficult to overcome food cravings. We work with out clients to learn to manage these by not going on a diet. Think about it. If I told you that you could never eat chocolate again the first thing that your mind would crave would be chocolate. This is because it is feeling deprived and fears missing out. We want our clients to eat a well balanced diet with no food groups removed which is why we structure our weight loss suggestions accordingly.

Portion Sizes

Portion Sizes

Many clients will have a problem with their weight because of their portion sizes. In just about every case they will not need the quantity of food that they are eating. This is why we use mindful eating when combined with hypnosis to help them adjust the food on their plate. Usually if our instructions are followed they will find they are eating significantly less.

Motivation

Motivation

Of course you can't have weight loss or change without some form of motivation. That means a desire to create change and a willingness to make some form of effort. Therapy is a two way street which means that the person coming in for help must have a desire to follow the therapists advice and make some effort. Binge Eating

Binge Eating

Binge eating is typically created because of too much dieting instead of too little. Add in the problem of low confidence and self esteem and mix it with some perfectionist tendencies and you have the perfect conditions for binge behaviour. At its extreme this can become bulimia. Addressing the underlying issues can make a huge difference to the problem. In the case of binge eating we ban all dieting.
