Shopping in Mongkok - A Budget Shoppers Delight

Located at the Northern tip of the Kowloon Peninsula, Mongkok is your sanctuary away from the maddening crowds. The place is home to speciality shops and street markets; a shoppers paradise.

1

Ladies Market

Mongkok can be easily reached from hotels in Kowloon, Hong Kong and is the preferred shopping precinct for budget-friendly goods. Ladies Market is a fine example of these street fairs and is so named due to all the vendors being female. Women shoppers are well serviced with goods ranging from perfumes, women's accessories, handbags, designer wear, souvenirs, fridge magnets, jade objects (which may not always be 100% jade!), toys, vintage trinkets and shoes. Remember you are expected to haggle for a reasonable price so brush up on your bargaining skills; the market is open from evening to midnight.

2

Temple Street Night Fair

This market to be more precise is located in the Yau Ma Tei district on Temple Street, easily accessed from Dorsett Mongkok Hong Kong via MTR Yau Ma Tei exit. This market too, similar to the previous one has stalls selling a whole range of designer brands (that may or may not be "original") and local goods. You can shop for sunglasses, watches, clothing, jewellery, electronic gadgets and a range of products for men; amongst other goodies.

3

Sai Yeung Choi Street South

Take the MTR to Mongkok exit D3 and you will come to this street, home to a wide range of stalls and shops that sell women's accessories and cosmetics as well as a good collection of modern electronic products.

4

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden and Flower Market

This unique market is situated along Embankment Road and is quite a change from regular markets. The place is home to a number of senior citizens who bring along their caged pet birds for passers-by to admire and observe being fed juicy grasshoppers. And if this is not your cup of tea, head over to the colourful confines of the nearby flower market where you can purchase the beautiful blossoms and exotic plants in all shades and hues; as well as absorb the cheerful ambience.

5

Goldfish Market

This brilliant market is located at the start of Tung Choi Street. Pass the bicycle shops and you will stumble upon a couple dozen shops that deal in the sale of exotic ornamental fish. Rare species and some highly priced the unusually shaped and coloured fish are some you will not see back home.

6

Fa Yuen Street

This market is situated close to the Ladies Market and is ideal for buying branded sports goods. Sports equipment and clothing from top brands such as Adidas, Nike and more are available at the shops lining this street. You will also find a collection of lesser known branded goods that are easier on the budget.

7

The Mongkok Computer Centre

This is a budget plaza located along Nelson Street; offering all manner of computers and accessories. The 3 story shopping complex is where you can conveniently shop for computers, software, hardware and a range of accessories at reasonable prices.
